In 1968, Gerrit van der Hoeven's hobby began to get somewhat out of hand. After finishing retail school, he still didn't really know what he wanted to do. In his spare time, he sometimes picked up car wrecks, with which he and his friends would go to autocrosses. “We used to take the parts out and sell them." That's how he slowly got into the business. Over the years, he built the company into the successful family business it is today.
2018
Even though Gerrit's son Mark has since taken over the company and although grandson Luuk is also already active in the company, Gerrit can still be found on his crane every day. With this equipment he skillfully dismantles all the car wrecks, so that they can be further processed.
2022
There used to be a grain store on the grounds of Autosloperij de Populier. Next to this building stood a row of poplars. The old Mr. van der Hoeven, i.e. Gerrit's father, came up with the idea to give the scrap yard this name. Original and easy to remember! In 2022, a beginning was made with the construction of a new office building.
